Mounjaro – YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Why has the price increased?

We understand that price changes can cause concern. Eli Lilly, the manufacturer, has recently increased their prices across all providers, which means your treatment cost will also be affected. We’re doing our best to keep our prices as competitive as possible ahead of the changes taking effect from 1st September. Our commitment remains the same — to provide you with the most effective and affordable options for your needs.

What options do I have if I can’t afford Mounjaro anymore?

For patients who wish to continue with Mounjaro, starting with a lower dose may be the most cost-effective approach. Alternatively, you might want to explore other clinically proven options, such as Wegovy, which has demonstrated significant weight loss benefits.

If I switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy, will I still get the same results?

Wegovy and Mounjaro are different treatments that work in different ways. The dose numbers (e.g., 2.5 mg vs 2.4 mg) aren’t directly comparable — think of it like measuring two different drinks in the same glass: the numbers might look similar, but what’s inside is different.
The full maintenance dose of Wegovy is 2.4 mg, which research shows is highly effective for weight loss — often leading to greater results than the lower starting doses of Mounjaro (such as 2.5 mg or 5 mg).
What really matters is:
The medicine you’re taking
The correct dose for that medicine
Staying consistent over time
So, if you switch to Wegovy, you’re not “getting less” — you’re moving to a proven, full-strength treatment designed to support significant weight loss.

Can you switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy directly?

Yes — it is safe to switch from Mounjaro to Wegovy after a 1-week wash-out period. In some cases, you may be able to start on a higher dose of Wegovy. We’re currently updating our assessment process to support this option and will let you know as soon as it becomes available.

How long do I need to wait before starting Wegovy after stopping Mounjaro?

You’ll need to wait 1 week (7 days) after your last Mounjaro dose before starting Wegovy. This allows enough time for Mounjaro to fully leave your system, ensuring a safe transition to your new treatment.

Why is a wash-out period necessary when switching GLP-1s?

A washout period between GLP-1 treatments is necessary to prevent overlapping effects and to reduce the risk of side effects.

What is the recommended wash-out period for each Mounjaro dose level?

The recommended washout period for all Mounjaro dose levels is 1 week (7 days).

Can I switch to Wegovy and then back to Mounjaro later?

Yes — you can. Simply follow the same washout period as before (1 week after your last dose), and the process of switching back will be similar to your initial switch.

What happens if I start Wegovy too soon after stopping Mounjaro?

If this happens, the effects of the two medicines may overlap, which can lead to stronger side effects and make dose titration more difficult. It may also be unclear how effective Wegovy is if Mounjaro is still in your system.

What happens if I stop Mounjaro and delay starting Wegovy?

Taking a break longer than the recommended washout period is safe. However, without medication, your weight loss progress may slow down, and some people may experience a small “rebound” in weight. By maintaining healthy habits and staying consistent with your routine, you can help minimise this effect.

Will I have to start Wegovy at the lowest dose if I switch from Mounjaro?

Not necessarily. Your starting dose of Wegovy will depend on your current Mounjaro dose and how long you’ve been taking it. In some cases, we may recommend beginning with a lower dose of Wegovy. This isn’t a step backwards — it’s a safe, clinically appropriate way to help your body adjust, reduce side effects, and make the switch more comfortable. In certain situations, you may be eligible to move directly to a higher Wegovy dose. We’re updating our assessment process to support this and will let you know once it’s available.
Our priority is to support safe, steady progress with your weight loss treatment. We’ll guide you through a personalised transition plan to ensure the change is smooth and effective.

Is Wegovy as effective as Mounjaro?

In clinical trials, Mounjaro achieved an average weight loss of around 20%, while Wegovy achieved around 17%. This suggests Mounjaro may be roughly 3% more effective. However, both treatments are highly effective tools for weight management. The best choice depends on factors such as your individual response, tolerance, and financial considerations.

Can I continue my weight loss progress after switching?

Yes — some patients may notice changes in their weight loss after switching. For some, Wegovy may actually be more effective or cause fewer side effects, which can make it easier to stay motivated and continue their weight loss journey.

Can I Switch to a Higher Dose of Wegovy Straight Away?

Yes. When you switch from Mounjaro, you don’t necessarily have to start Wegovy on the lowest dose. Instead, you may be able to start on a higher dose of Wegovy straight away.
The table below shows the recommended Wegovy dose, based on your current Mounjaro dose. You can also choose to start on a lower dose of the medication, if you’d prefer.
