It is mainly prescribed to relieve symptoms of postmenopausal vaginal atrophy, such as dryness, itching, irritation, and painful intercourse, which occur when oestrogen levels fall after menopause. Ovestin is available as a vaginal cream, pessary, or oral tablet, allowing treatment to be tailored to each patient’s needs. By delivering oestrogen locally, Ovestin helps restore the vaginal lining, improve elasticity, and relieve discomfort without producing high hormone levels throughout the body. It may also be used in certain cases before or after vaginal surgery to aid healing.
